Privacy policy

This explains what Shift collects when you play, why, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Your account: email address, username, profile photo and a hashed password, or your name, email and photo from Google if you sign in with Google.
- What you do in games: scores, rankings, saves, items bought with shifts, your shifts balance and its history, which games you played and for how long.
- Sessions and security: a sign-in cookie, plus the IP address and browser of each session, to keep your account secure.
- Guests: a random id kept in your browser, so we can count players online without an account.
- Usage and errors: pages visited, clicks and crashes, measured with PostHog.
2. Why we use it
- To run your account, keep your progress across devices and run the leaderboards.
- To pay weekly prizes and deliver store rewards.
- To send account emails (verification, password resets).
- To stop cheating and abuse.
- To understand what to improve.
- To show ads, which keep Shift free (below).
3. Ads and cookies
Shift shows ads from Google AdSense on its pages and as video breaks inside Shift Originals. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them, and measure them. Depending on your choices, those ads can be personalised from your activity on this and other sites.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalised ads, through Google's consent message. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy link that message adds to the page.
You can turn off personalised ads at Google Ad Settings and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com. Third-party vendors and ad networks can also be managed at aboutads.info.
Games from GamePix are embedded from GamePix's own servers and can show their own ads and set their own cookies, under GamePix's privacy policy.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal data. We use these providers to run Shift:
- Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Backblaze and Cloudflare (game files).
- Google (sign-in and ads), PostHog (analytics), Resend (email).
- Store partners, only what is needed to deliver a reward you redeem.
Games only see your username, profile photo and an id unique to each game, never your email. Your username, photo and scores are public on the leaderboards.
5. How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. When you delete it from your profile, we delete your personal data, except records we must keep by law (for example, store purchases) and leaderboard results already paid out, which stay anonymised.
6. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, its correction or deletion, or object to how we use it. Write to hello@playshift.games. Where the law gives you the right, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
7. Children
Shift is not meant for children under 13 (16 where local law requires), and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
8. Changes and contact
We'll update this page when this changes, and tell you by email about anything important. Questions: hello@playshift.games.
