Frequently asked questions
How Shift, shifts and prizes work. Anything else: hello@playshift.games.
Is Shift free?
- Yes. Every game on Shift is free to play in your browser, with nothing to download. Ads on the pages and short ad breaks in some games pay for the site.
What are shifts?
- Shifts are Shift's reward points. You win them on launch-week leaderboards, and you'll be able to spend them on in-game items and in the Shift store, both coming soon. They have no cash value and can't be bought, sold or moved between accounts.
How do I win shifts?
- Play a Shift Original during its launch week, the week it comes out, and finish in the top 5 of its leaderboard. The top 5 win 2,500, 1,500, 1,000, 500, 500 shifts. You need an account so your scores count.
When are prizes paid?
- Weeks run Monday to Sunday in UTC. Prizes are paid after the launch week closes, from Monday at 00:00 UTC. Top results may be reviewed first.
What can I spend shifts on?
- The Shift store is coming soon, with gift cards, game keys and subscriptions, and some Shift Originals will sell in-game items for shifts. Until then, shifts build up in your balance. They can't be cashed out.
Do I need an account to play?
- No. Anyone can play. Sign in with Google or email to post scores, appear on leaderboards, win shifts, save your progress and track your time played.
Do all games on Shift pay shifts?
- No. Only Shift Originals, the games we make, pay shifts, and only during their launch week. Games from GamePix are free to play and rank players by time played, but don't pay shifts.
How old do I need to be?
- You need to be at least 13, or the minimum age where you live, to create an account. One account per person.
Can I play on my phone?
- Shift Originals are desktop-only for now and need a keyboard and mouse. Many games from GamePix support touch and run on phones.
Do ads earn shifts?
- No. Some games offer an optional ad in exchange for an in-game bonus, like an extra life, but watching ads never earns shifts.
How are leaderboards kept fair?
- Scores are checked automatically and the top results can be reviewed by hand. Cheating, bots, modified clients or multiple accounts lose their scores and prizes, and can get the account closed.
